In the Footsteps of the Inspector
A journey through the places that made Montalbano famous
Welcome to South-Eastern Sicily, the cradle of Baroque and the setting for the investigations of Italy's most beloved inspector. This itinerary is an invitation to experience firsthand the places that Andrea Camilleri imagined.
A path between imaginary cities and real restaurants, where every glimpse tells a scene and every flavor an emotion.
01. Scicli, the Heart of Vigàta
Our journey begins in Scicli, a Baroque jewel (UNESCO) and the beating heart of the TV Vigàta. Here you will find the iconic facade of the Police Station (il Municipio) (the Town Hall) and, a few steps away, the exterior of the Montelusa Police Headquarters.
The Advice
Stroll along the splendid Via Francesco Mormino Penna an open-air set of countless scenes and a World Heritage Site.
02. Punta Secca: The House by the Sea
his charming seaside village is the real "Marinella" of the fiction. The destination is the famous house of Montalbano with its terrace overlooking the beach, where the Inspector takes his morning swims and finds peace.
Don't Miss
After the ritual photo, have lunch in one of the seaside trattorias with a veranda nearby, just as the inspector would do. Booking is a must in summer!
03. Ragusa Ibla: The Square of Vigàta
Welcome to the main square of Vigàta. The majestic staircase of the Cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla is the protagonist of countless scenes. Here is also the elegant Circolo di Conversazione, used as a meeting place for the town notables.
Don't Miss
GEnjoy the atmosphere and look for a traditional trattoria in the alleys of Ibla to taste the famous ricotta ravioli and cavati with pork sauce.
04. Places of Power and Mystery
Explore two places with opposite charm: the sumptuous Donnafugata Castle, he opulent residence of boss Balduccio Sinagra in the fiction, and the decadent Fornace Penna in Sampieri, the "Mànnara", scene of dark discoveries.
The Advice
Visit the castle by day to admire the details and get lost in its labyrinth. Admire the Mànnara at sunset for an evocative shot.
05. Sweet Modica
A visit to Modica cannot be missed. Its baroque churches and staircases have often been used for filming, but the real protagonist is its confectionery tradition. A stop here is a sweet interlude in your journey.
Don't Miss
A tasting of the famous Modica chocolate, granular and aromatic, in one of the historic pastry shops in the center.
