An elegant Art Nouveau building that stands on a cliff overlooking the sea, right in front of the Island of Capo Passero. Built in the 1930s, with its fairytale silhouette, it is one of the most fascinating and mysterious landmarks of the coast.

It was never inhabited by the noble family that built it. Today it is an exclusive location for events, but its external beauty can be admired from the coast.

04.The Ancient Tuna Fishery

A fascinating industrial archeology monument that testifies to the ancient relationship between man and the sea. Even if in ruins, the Tonnara exudes a unique charm, telling stories of fatigue, fishing, and traditions now lost.

Visit it at sunset, when the warm light of the sun turns the stone ruins golden against the blue of the sea.

05. The Port and Fish Market

The beating heart of the town. Here you can watch the fishing boats return in the afternoon and witness the lively fish auction. It is the perfect place to buy very fresh fish directly from the fishermen.

06. "Casuzze" and Terrazza dei Due Mari

07. Archeology of the Sea

The area is rich in history. Near the Tonnara there are ancient tanks for processing fish (garum) dating back to the Greco-Roman era, evidence that this place has always been a center of maritime trade.

08. Church of San Gaetano

The mother church of the town, dedicated to the patron saint. Simple and welcoming, it is the center of the community's religious life.

On August 7th, the statue of the Saint is carried in a procession first through the streets and then onto a boat for a blessing of the sea.

An imposing white lighthouse that stands on a hill inland, visible from miles away. It is one of the most important lighthouses in Sicily and offers, from its base, a 360-degree panorama of the coast.

Unlike most lighthouses, it is not on the cliff but inland. It was built there in 1864 to be visible from both the Ionian and Mediterranean sides.

Portopalo offers beaches for all tastes. From the "Scalo Mandrie" beach facing the island, perfect for families, to the wild dunes of Carratois.

Scalo Mandrie is ideal when the Grecale blows, while Carratois is sheltered from the Mistral. Ask the locals "How is the wind today?" to choose the best beach.
